A 999 call was received into the Force Control Room from a distressed woman stating that she was going to kill herself. On the phone she made threats to harm herself and warned officers not to come to her home or she would carry out her threats. The officers attending were PC (867) Joseph Treadwell, PC (860) Simon Berger, PC (1181) Lydia Turner, PC (727) John Taylor and PC (1248) Reece Smith. In order not to jeopardise the woman’s safety, they arrived without sirens and lights, at heightened risk to their own personal safety. They forced entry into the home and located the woman who was imminently at risk of serious harm. PC Treadwell, PC Smith and PC Taylor worked quickly and calmly to get to the woman and make sure she was safe before administering first aid. This was a fast paced and dynamic incident during which the officers acted with swift clarity and determination throughout. There is no doubt that without the calm professionalism of Contact Management Operator Claire Kendall, along with the timely intervention of these officers, the woman would have come to serious harm. Instead, and as a result of their actions, the woman received the medical assistance she needed. The lifesaving actions of these members of staff, who are based across HQ, Lincoln ad Gainsborough, were recognised at the ceremony where they received a Chief Constable’s Commendation.
